Pat Testing Services Dublin - Portable Appliance Testing
PAT Testing
Introduction
The purpose of Portable Appliance testing (PAT) is to ensure that your business is in compliance with statutory requirements on health and safety in the workplace as directed by the HAS. All electrical equipment that you or your employees use must be kept in a well maintained state. Examples of portable electrical appliance include office machinery (PC, laptop, printer, copier, fax machine), kettles, heaters, extension leads and generally anything else that would have a power lead attached to it.
Legislation
The Safety, Health Welfare at Work regulation 2001 Statutory Instrument number 188 2001 states that:
- Every portable appliance must be tested once a year.
- The results must be held for 5 years.
- The results must also be made available for inspection by an inspector of the HAS.
Trained Personnel
Our fully qualified PAT technicians are qualified electricians with years of experience. We will both inspect and test your appliances, as well as looking for potential future problems such as damaged cables, ill-fitting or damaged plug covers, makeshift repairs that might have been done by others, loose parts or screws, and signs of wear or overheating.
Testing Procedure
Following a visual inspection, our state-of-the-art testing equipment carries out the following tests:
- Insulation resistance.
- Earthed continuity.
- Earth leakage.
- Correct Polarity.
- Load testing.
- Functionality check.
Test Records
The test equipment automatically generates a unique asset number for each appliance tested. A label is then printed for attachment to the appliance.
All test data is uploaded to our PAT software suite, where a variety of detailed reports/certificates can be printed off to suit our clients requirements.
The asset data can then be uploaded to the test equipment when it comes time to retest the appliance in 12 months’ time. This ensures the unique asset number stays with the appliance throughout its testing life with us.
We can also supply our clients with the list of assets for them to maintain their own inventory list of appliances should they wish to do so.
